You answer the same question every week. Probably ten times. Someone rings, and before anything else they ask what a callout costs. Or how soon you can get there. Or whether you charge to quote.
You explain it. Then you explain it again that afternoon.
Here is one job for this week. Film a 30-second video that answers that question once. Then stop repeating yourself. That is the most useful video marketing a tradie can do.
Pick the Question You Are Sick Of
Think back over your last ten calls. One question came up nearly every time.
For a sparkie it might be "do you charge a callout fee?" For a removalist, "how do you price a two-bedroom move?" For a mobile mechanic, "can you come to my work?"
Pick that one. Do not pick the clever question. Pick the boring one you answer on repeat. That is the one costing you time.
Film It on Your Phone in Five Minutes
You do not need a studio or a mic. Your phone is fine. So is the front of your ute.
- Stand outside in daylight. Not the shed, not the cab.
- Say the question out loud first. "A lot of people ask me what a callout costs."
- Answer it straight. Give a real number or a real range.
- Say what happens next. "Give us a ring and we can get you booked in."
Keep it under 40 seconds. Do it in one take. It does not need to be perfect. A real face and a straight answer will do.
If you want to tidy it up, your phone will do it. There are free apps for captions and trimming. Our post on free tools every Aussie tradie should be using lists a few.
Put It Where People Already Ask
Filming it is the easy bit. The value comes from where you paste it.
- Your Google Business Profile. Add it as a post. Loads of people land there before they ever see your website. You can add video straight from the Google Business Profile app.
- Your website. Put it on the page where people book you.
- Your enquiry replies. When someone texts asking about price, send the link.
- Instagram and Facebook. Post it with the question as the caption.
That is one clip in four places, and about ten minutes of work. Your booking page needs to be ready before you send people there. Our guide to website features that win local jobs covers the basics.
What This Looks Like in Adelaide
Say you run a plumbing business in Adelaide. Every second caller asks the same thing. Do you charge to quote?
You film 30 seconds in the driveway on a Tuesday. You say quotes are free on bigger jobs. You say a small callout is $90, and you say why. Done in one take.
Now that clip sits on your Google Business Profile. It sits on your booking page. When a lead texts at 7pm, you send it instead of typing out a paragraph.
Two things change. The people who ring you already know your price, so fewer calls waste your morning. And the ones who book have heard your voice already. They trust you before you pull up.
It took five minutes to film.
Is One Video Really Enough?
For this week, yes.
One real answer beats ten clips of you pointing at a job site. Once it is up, film the next question next week. In three months you have a small library of answers. Each one saves you a phone call.
Do not try to film ten today. You will film none.
The Bottom Line
Your customers ask the same questions in the same order. Answer the loudest one on video, once. Then send it every time instead of explaining it again.
That is the whole win. It costs you five minutes and no money.
